Our PASTOR

Rev. Dale Skurla

The Rev. Dale Skurla was born September 17, 1950 in Cleveland, OH, and baptized in October 1950.   He is the oldest of two children born to George and Wilma Skurla.  Dale attended Cleveland State University in Cleveland, OH, and in May 1970 enlisted in the United States Navy. While on active duty, Dale was accepted into the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program which led to his commissioning as Naval officer following graduation from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.  Dale completed his military career with the rank of Lieutenant Commander on May 31, 1990.

On September 22, 1990, he and the former Donna Jaenecke were united in marriage at Hope Lutheran Church, Plant City, FL where Dale and Donna faithfully served our Lord for many years prior to relocating to St Louis. Dale began classes at Concordia Seminary in 1996 and graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree in May 2000. He went on to complete a year of Clinical pastoral Education in May 2001.

On June 9, 1996, God called Donna’s sister, Sandy, to her heavenly reward.  In the six months prior to Sandy’s death, Pastor and Donna were part of the family care team for her.  It was during this time that God convincingly assured Pastor Skurla that he was being called to the Office of the Holy Ministry.  Sandy and her father were the first to learn of Pastor’s acceptance to Concordia Seminary in St Louis.  Pastor Skurla’s ministry is dedicated to the honor and glory of God and to the memory of the lady who God used to accomplish His will for Pastor. Thus, it was appropriate for his ordination to occur on the fifth anniversary of Sandy’s call to glory.

Pastor Skurla was ordained on June 9, 2001 at Hope Lutheran Church, Plant City, FL. His initial assignment was to St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mechanicsville, MD, where he served nine years.  He has been the Pastor at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church since October 10, 2010.  To God alone be the glory.
